The manifesto

Travel is a privilege. Use it well.

We believe travel should make the world better — not worse. These are the six principles behind everything we build at Wandermi.

The best way to protect a place is to fall in love with it — and to leave it a little quieter, a little richer, than we found it.
Our six principles

What we stand for — and what we'll never do.

01
Authenticity over popularity

The world has 195 countries. Most travel content covers 20.

We optimize for places that still have character — not for the ones with the most check-ins. Our algorithms are tuned to surface the under-visited, the off-season, the local favourite. The "top 10" is an industry, not a map.

02
Locals first

If tourism doesn't help the people who live there, it's extraction.

Only 10–20% of tourism revenue reaches local communities. The rest flows to multinational chains. We surface local stays, local guides, family-run kitchens — and we measure how much of your spend actually lands where it should.

03
The crowd signal, not the crowd

Overtourism is a design problem, not a demand problem.

There are enough beautiful places for everyone — we just keep funnelling people into the same 10%. Our real-time Crowd Intelligence redistributes demand across space and time, so Santorini can breathe and the other 174 coastlines can shine.

04
We work for you — not for advertisers

No ads. No sponsored placements. No brand can buy its way into your feed.

Wandermi is subscription-funded, so we can tell you the truth. When the Trevi Fountain is packed at 2 pm, we say so. When a “famous” restaurant is a tourist trap, we say so. Your subscription aligns our incentives with yours, not with the destinations that want your attention.

05
Slow travel, deeper memory

A trip is not a scoreboard. It's a story you'll tell for decades.

Our Travel Diary captures the whole story — the quiet morning, the wrong turn, the stranger who pointed you to the better bakery. Export as PDF or order a printed album. A keepsake you can hold, not another scroll-and-forget feed.

06
Leave it better

Every trip earns an Impact Score. Because your choices compound.

We reward travellers who explore off the beaten path, travel off-season, and contribute gems back to the community. It's not a guilt meter — it's a mirror, and a quiet flex. The more you choose well, the higher your level climbs.

The best way to protect a place is to fall in love with it — and to leave it a little quieter, a little richer, than we found it.

Why it matters

Overtourism is quietly breaking the places we love.

This isn't abstract. Locals are being priced out of Barcelona. Venice is drowning in day-trippers. Santorini lost its sunset to a 3-hour queue. If we don't redesign demand, we lose the places themselves.

Our promise

Three commitments we keep.

🚫

Discovery funded by you, not brands

No destination, hotel, or brand can pay to appear first. Our algorithm is subscriber-funded — so what surfaces is based on fit, not who paid.

🔒

Your personal data stays private

Your location, saves, and trips belong to you. We may use anonymised, aggregated travel patterns to help destinations manage tourism more sustainably — but your identity is never part of it.

🌱

Rewards that mean something

Our Impact Score recognises how you travel — four levels tied to real sustainable behaviour. Designed to make better choices feel good, not to engineer streaks or create dependency.
